Michigan Mini-Honrs

Alpha Upsilon Zeta attended the Michigan Regional Mini-Honors Conference in Livonia, Mi at Schoolcraft College. They were represented by four Officers, two Advisors, and one member/ Regional Officer.

It was a weekend where we started off by walking for the American Cancer Society and along with all the other chapters and businesses raised over $6,351 for Cancer research, but that's not even the start of it all.

On Saturday morning, We were introduced to the Leadership Toolkits the regional board had created for us. Inside were a series of tools, leadership resources, and words of encouragement from the executive director of Phi Theta Kappa Dr. Rod Risley.

We then heard about the regional honors in action project centered around establishing food banks and/or food drives at our campuses to help those in need. The Michigan Region is establishing a scholarship for who ever raises the most and what ever chapter raises the most

Then the members of Alpha Upsilon Zeta, worked diligently on Competitive Edge. All the officers worked for hours trying to not only reach level one, but much higher too.

Saturday night was a Superhero Mixer, where danced, played video games, pool, and some even stayed working on their competitive edge.

The conference was adjourned on Sunday, but not before the entire Michigan region came together for one last picture.

2010-2011 Honors Study Topic

Phi Theta Kappa is dedicated to providing members with opportunities for intellectual growth and challenge, as well as opportunities for leadership development and service through the Society’s Hallmarks. The central focus of the Hallmarks is an Honors Study Topic that offers chapters a platform for examination of a timely, interdisciplinary subject of vital importance to the human experience. This Guide serves as an introduction to The Phi Theta Kappa Experience through the Society’s four Hallmarks: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Fellowship. The Guide provides ideas for chapters to develop in each of the Hallmarks through exploration of the 2010/2011 Honors Study Topic, The Democratization of Information: Power, Peril, and Promise. Through analysis of the issues related to the Honors Study Topic, chapters will be able to develop Honors in Action activities that incorporate leadership roles, leadership development activities and service learning projects they initiate to engage their chapters, colleges, and communities.
